Fueled by nuMetra’s proprietary algorithms, Media Grid Engines form the core technical foundation of a suite of new service provider offerings that enable the delivery of “premium” quality content to broadband connected consumers across multiple networks. By precisely timing the release of packets into a network, the Media Grid Engine can obtain at least 90%+ of the capacity of a last-mile connection regardless of the degree of network congestion.

As a lightweight appliance on industry-standard equipment platforms placed at core exchange points within an ISP’s network, the Media Grid Engine contains TCP-Mustang, a new TCP implementation that provides for the linear predictability of the performance of bandwidth end-to-end over the Internet. As a result, consumers, content companies and advertisers are provided with a greater quality of experience and overall value than is currently possible with today’s “best-effort” broadband delivery mechanisms.

The Media Grid Engine will be offered to InterStream participants under an open-source licensing agreement. By using an open-source approach, extensions and enhancements are freely permitted by value-add service providers such as CDN operators, ISPs, or Network Equipment Vendors.
